Correct. The update will not allow you to use the built-in keyboard or mouse. Just be sure to copy the files to the computer first so they're easy to get to.

Question for carlos... Do you know if BootCamp is available for this? I couldn't find it in my System Options.

Just a little tip... before doing all the updates (10.5.6 combo update in the software update pane) I installed the keyboard and mouse kexts before restarting while they initially worked, and voila! I didn't have to use any external devices upon rebooting, everything worked right off the bat after installing the 5.6 update to OS X.

One problem though... is it really necessary to edit that plist file you mentioned? I can't seem to edit it, and my system seems ok without editing it. Can you explain why and how you need to edit this file?

just a reminder to not update to 10.5.6 and install the sleep enabler kext at the same time. if you do so, your usb won't work + your laptop's keyboard/trackpad as well.

Some of use are total noobs at this. When the guide says "install kext", well how??
After digger around I found kext helper .7, so I assume all the kext should be installed using kext helper.

Unfortunately, after installing ClamShell and EHCI
I can't find the path to Info.plist file in:
/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBEHCI.kext/Contents/

It just doesn't allow clicking through /IOUSBFamily.kext (not a folder)

Am I missing something? What's best way to install kext? and is it same for every kext?

Right click IOUSBFamily.kext and click "display contents".

After you click "display contents" though and you try to manually edit the info.plist file, it won't let me save... it says i don't have adequate priviliges.. how do i get past that error and save the file i edited?

what is the purpose of editing that file anyway? i still haven't (done everything else in the walkthrough) and my install seems great so far...?

You have to be logged in as root if you'd like to edit it from the gui, however you can do it using the sudo command line without being actually logged in as root.

You're editing the plist file to ensure that sleeping via "closing the clamshell" (closing the lid) will work properly.

Yeah, seriously a whole big thank you to all of you for helping.

I got the clamshell sleep to work. But upon wake from sleep it messages with the wifi. I read some where that you had to disable wifi first before putting to sleep. Tried that too, but on wake, wifi nolonger works and can't be turned on from osx.

I think it might be because I had installed the clamshell kext a few times in frustration. If some one know what i did wrong, again I'd be much obliged. thanks.

PS. kext helper is the way to install kext right? the only way?
