External monitor 1920x1080?

Postby davidc2k3 » Fri Jan 28, 2011 1:43 am

I'm using my S10 Mac OS X 10.6.5 with enabler 1.1.17, so far working very well, even using Apple wireless keyboard, Apple magic mouse, and Apple usb lan adapter ;)
I'm using external monitor 15" 1024x768 as extension and plan to upgrade to bigger monitor,
can i hook up an external monitor with 24" 1920x1080 on vga output?

thanks.

Me too!

I use a 24" Acer. I have found that on occasions (particularly after waking from sleep) it can switch to a the external monitor only at a resolution of 1600 x 1200 but that selecting display preferences then unplugging the monitor waiting till it switches back to the LCD then reconnecting the monitor usually forces it to the dual screens with the 24" at 1920 x 1080.

Displays preferences being open appears to be necessary to force this. Not sure why but it always works for me. Hope this helps! ;)

Sort of on topic. I just purchased my s10e running osx 10.6.6 along with a vga to dvi out port. I'm not getting anything on my external screen. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

What type of monitor and adaptor do you use?
I think VGA does only deliver analog video signal and if you just hook up a DVI screen that requires DVI-D signal it might doesn't work because VGA doesn't support digital video signal.

Thanks for chiming in. Turns out the dvi to vga doesn't want to work so I went out and bought a vga to vga and boom it works great.

Is there a way to make the external monitor the main screen and the s10 the secondary in terms of controls and dock? etc.

Yes you can. Just open the system preferences and click on displays. In the window where you can arrange your monitors, just grab the white menu bar and drag it to your bigger (external) screen and it becomes your primary monitor!
