S10-2 will not boot from USB external Plextor CD-R

I just purchased Lenovo Ideapad S10-2 netbook.
I like this netbook.
I also have a Plextor PX-S88TU USB External CD-R CDROM.
I cannot boot from this CD-R.
I have read and tried most of the tips from Google searches and nothing works.

* delete upper and lower filters.
* unplug drive from USB and reinsert USB (tried all USB ports)
* unplug power - reboot system - select F12 - choose USB CDROM 1st BOOT device
* tried above with and without CD loaded in CD-R

Anyone have a working solution?
I do not want to keep purchasing various DVD/CD devices until I find one that works.

Anyone recommend a drive that works without issue?

Have you checked to make sure the disc is bootable and it works? Have you tried using the external drive on a different computer?

I know the cd is bootable it will boot on a desktop that I have.
I will try the the Plextor on a desktop.
I will update you when I have a chance to complete this task.

cd boots and plextor reads disk on Vista 64 Home Premium SP2
It does not install as this is Unbuntu Netbook edition
I have read of many problems with USB external CD-R booting with Ideapad s10-2.

NOTE: I updated BIOS on the ideapad to the latest available V1.07
I did try some other boot cd's for example Hiren's BootCD 11.0 and it works fine on Vista 64 Home Premium SP2
but still no luck on the Lenovo Ideapad s10-2.

I purchased a Lenovo External USB CD-RW / DVD Combo Drive 40Y8687 IBM
Everything works fine now
This is a very hit or miss hardware compatibility issue
Maybe a hardware compatibility list is in order.
