On Screen Status Indicators (ie: brightness)

Postby Twyst » Thu Jun 18, 2009 8:29 pm

Hi there!

My laptop has been through a lot in the past few days - its registry had a bunch of problems, and now i am recovering from that. Most recently, my problem is that i cannot see the status indicators when i use the function keys, ie: brightness, volume, etc. I thought this was because i have reduced my resolution, but i am not sure how to get it back on the screen :(

I also cannot tell if the wireless is on or off (well... it is off, but i am not sure how to turn it back on, whether the key beside onekey recovery or the Fn + wifi keys are working). Anyone have any ideas? :(((((((

If you aren't seeing the OSD when you use the FN combos to change brightness or volume, you probably need to reinstall the Lenovo Power Management application. As for wifi, make sure your drivers are installed properly (maybe just reinstall them), and then try the green wifi key and the FN+F5 key until you get it. If you had registry issues, it's quite possible the drivers just got lost in the mix. Reinstalling should help.

Aah, i had utility.exe disabled on boot, which i think may do the trick for the on screen status.

The wireless was disabled in the BiOS >_< sorry for the silly questions, i am a bit frazzled!

I thought about the BIOS thing, but I figured nobody would miss that. ;) Actually, I thought it wouldn't have changed unless you were doing something outside of your Windows environment, so I ruled it out. Oh well, sounds like you're on your way!

In some versions of power management, you might not see status indicators if you log in as a limited user and not as an administrator. In such cases, the profile that was last being used as administrator with regards to energy management becomes standard for the limited user.

this problem is definately due to Utility.exe not being started on bootup. i had this problem and simply re-enabling it fixes it the on screen indicators
