Hacking the Lenovo S10-2: Adding 3G

Postby Tulisan » Thu Jul 02, 2009 1:48 pm

Someone just added a 3G modem on his S10-2! The review is so detailed including where to buy the specific modem and antenna. He used a F3507g with FRU PN: 43Y6357 which passed the BIOS lock.

Awesome I just bought the same modem after reading this. I already installed antennas behind my display the day I received my S10-2 can't wait for the modem to get here. Anyone find a BT mod yet other than the USB dongle.

Lenovo screwed me!!! After researching and and spending money and time just to find out that the new S10-2 doesn't have the SIM reader on the Motherboard. I installed the 3G card drivers and program put the SIM in the rear slot but didn't seem like it fit right. Started the Broadband program and reported no SIM tried to remove the SIM card but just fell inside the case. Had to take the whole top off to retrieve the card so decided to look and see how to exactly install the SIM card. To my disgust I noticed that there is an outline demarcating the location of where the SIM reader should be at. This totally sucks false advertising the main reason I bought the S10-2 was for the 3G and built in SIM reader which isn't even there, just a slot with a piece of foam covering the slot.

I also ordered the 3G modem, the GPS & wireless antenna from the IBM x200 and one SIM tray to solder due to my S10-2 doesn't have a SIM tray. Can't wait to do this work... :D

all these cost me €100

After all that installation stuff, everything works ok. I hae one question thought. I use my mobile phone's SIM card for mobile broadband internet because I have a Data plan. Is there a program that can use netbook with F3507G card as a telephone device using the microphone and speakers?
