thanks for this guide, which contains the way through an USB Stick.
Is there someone who can outline to do it through the normal Retail DVD and an external DVD Drive?

I would not like to go through the USB way and instead prefer an normal DVD way

I just did it for the first time. I was going to use the guide referenced above, but it seems like it's gotten a lot simpler in the couple of months since it was written, at least if you have a 10.5.6 install disc, which is what I used. Not sure what happens with earlier versions.

It looks like this is what you want:
http://dellefi.mechdrew.com/guide/method3.shtml
(Note that I didn't use this procedure, I modified "method 4" by removing the s10 drive, attaching it to my Mac, setting everything up there, and putting it back in.)

When you finish that, you'll want to go here:
http://www.thekitch.com/tech/mac-osx-on ... ell-mini-9
and go the section called "There are a few more steps for the S10 as well."

Once done, I suggest you enable RAM-only sleep mode (fast, but no recovery if you run all the way down) by opening /Applications/Utilities/Terminal and typing:
sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
(you will need to enter your account password)

That should be pretty much it. Good luck.

I have the same opinion to remove the HD and install OS X using another computer is much easier. I have USB DVD drive and USB HD which are not working/detected on S10.
