One Key Recovery - Need Help

Postby philhm » Mon Apr 13, 2009 8:41 am

Does anyone know how i could dump a backup image I made when I first got the ideapad back onto the system?

Usually I would go onto the recovery partition but had some issues due to the fact I installed Linux and resized my partitions.. After much back and forth ended up formatting everything and now I dont have any way of getting into the recovery partition.. Is there an image or software I can use to put that image onto the disk? Something like ghost? Or does anyone know if by installing a fresh copy of windows i could then install the Recovery software and then reimage using the backup image?

Any help would be appreciated.. thanks!!

So you're not talking about OKR, right? (EDIT: I guess you are, judging by your title.) You want to just restore an image to the system partition? I would think there's some sort of Linux LiveCD that would get you in deep enough to write the image back to a partition. It might depend upon having the target partition be the same size as the one the image was made from as well.

As far as the recovery partition and using OKR, I think all bets are off for that once you've resized partitions. But I may be mistaken.

Look into LiveCDs, or do what I've done at times: Install an OS into a small partition at the end of the disk, log into it, and use that to restore the image to where you want the "real" OS. Clunky, but it might work. :)
