which vmware edition?

hello - just placed an order for my first s10, delivery is next wednesday.

quite excited and can't wait to try it out. however, i probably will not want to touch the base OS or modify anything else so to keep the registry clean as possible. in the past, i would simply swap out the hdd and secure it in a safe place for the chance i would need to send it in for warranty, for example. however, i don't have any spare 2.5" hdd.

i have different vmware winxp-pro images on my current computer, what is the best vmware edition should i install and what has worked well with the base s10 (and not s10e): vmware server or vmware player? thanks.
