I've (and others) have been working on the Wiki--including the audio section. I'm not sure which fix is best, and I would like to include a fix that works (if necessary.)
Wiki: http://s10lenovo.com/wiki/index.php5?title=Ubuntu_8.10

Is this the best fix?

Thank you,

I have finally figured out how to get the internal mic to work in Jaunty, although I think this fix will work for hardy, intrepid and jaunty.

You want to read this thread. Lots of useful info in there.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6589810

I downloaded the script AlsaUpgrade-1.0.x-rev-1.16.tar, untar'd it then ran the command:

sudo ./AlsaUpgrade-1.0.x-rev-1.16.sh -di

This takes a while as it compiles a new version of ALSA for you. However this alone wasn't enough... I had to actually grab a recend snapshot of ALSA for the best support with this command:

sudo ./AlsaUpgrade-1.0.x-rev-1.16.sh -snap

Once this was done, I restarted and my Mic started to work in Skype, Sound Recorder and Audacity. Woohoo!

Finally full support for all my hardware, I couldn't be happier.

There is a problem with the alsa server. I change the script to an european mirror:

After installing 9.04 with wubi I found that the following worked...

options snd-hda-intel model=basic

into the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Can you explain this a little more please? I really want my mic to work but I just installed Linux and do not have tons of experience with it. Thanks so much!

interesting,

for 8.10 it was

options snd-hda-intel model=auto

@issepos.

1. open a terminal
2. type in "sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf"
3. a new window will open.
4. jump to the end of that file
5. edit at the end
# Internal Micro
options snd-hda-intel model=basic

6. save the file.
7. restart the netbook or your soundsystem

Thanks so much! It works great in sound capture, however in skype, what I really care about I can barely hear myself after completing a test call. I fiddled with the volume controls maxing everything out and still not luck. Any ideas?
Thanks again!

In the mixer which device did you have selected?

I found with sound recorder that i had to play around with the settings for the "Realtek ALC269 (OSS Mixer)" for the volume to change.
