experience Ubuntu and WinXP parallel with virtualbox 2.1

Hi,

I use on my S10e exclusively Ubuntu for nearly anything, including multimedia for dvd, video, slides, music etc. There are two things, which I couldn't put into practice:
1. the German "Elsterformular" = the annual tax declaration
2. to syncronize my car navigation system

For that I installed virtualbox 2.1 on my Ubuntu S10e and run WinXP as a client. The performance is not bad and you can run your display in 800x600 or 640x480 with 16, 24 are 32 bit. You can hear sound and can see the status of the batterie. USB-devices like a car naviation system can be passed through and syncronized with MS Active Sync. Of course you need a WinXP license.

hast du wine probiert um diesen windows accounting program zu benutzen. ich glaube dass es weniger arbeitsspeicher als xp in a shell nimmt.

Hi,

habe ich und es läuft auch unter wine. wine benötigt weniger Arbeitsspeicher als virtualbox; dies liegt in der Architektur von virtualbox, da es ein komplett eigenständiges Betriebssystem innerhalb eines anderen Betriebssystem darstellt. Es emuliert nicht, wie es wine tut.
