Need a bit of help with sleep...

Background: Had a working 10.6.2 install on Lenovo S10e. Decided to upgrade as some of my Mac Store apps were refusing to install on anything less than 10.6.6. Tried to upgrade to 10.6.8, used Enabler 1.1.18 and then got screwed up with sleepenabler and borked the whole thing.

Started from scratch last night at 10.6.3 and updated to 10.6.7 (found the combo installer on my HDD). Again used Enabler 1.1.8 and this time had success. Used Migration Assistant to transfer settings from a second partition where I had cloned the working 10.6.2 install previously) and am really pleased with everything except sleep.

If I close the lid, the blue flashing light goes on. The screen stays dark when trying to wake the computer though. I have not done anything with sleepenabler other than what 1.1.18 does automatically. I'm actually having a hard time finding the sleepenabler.kext file on the mac (is it hidden)?

Right now, I have the following four partitions:
10.6.7 after migration assistant
DATA
10.6.7 clean (before migration assistant)
10.6.2 before the whole upgrade

Questions:
1. How do I get sleep to work? How do I replace the sleepenabler kext when I can't find one on the lenovo? Would really appreciate a step-by-step terminal guide on this as I searched this thread and others but can't find the proper terms to use to replace the kext and 'touch' it afterwards?

2. Is it worth upgrading to 10.6.8? I can give it a go on the clean version but did have problems even booting to the old 10.6.2 partition when I properly borked the original install.

Thanks!

I did exactly what MalibuJack posted towards the bottom of page 257 - http://s10lenovo.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=3280&start=2560 . I have a Lenovo S10 4231 and used SLE 1.1.17. Using 10.6.0 GM and then applying the 10.6.8 update (per MalibuJack's) instructions, everything including sleep works perfectly. As far as finding sleepenabler - it is under System/Library/Extensions. It has a "_" before it which makes it a little tougher to find ( _SleepEnabler.kext ). As for deleting - i just right clicked and deleted. For installing the kext I used "Kext Helper b7". Search it on google it's a free mac download. When you click "Advanced" on kexthelper it gives you the option to select "kext permissions" and "tag cache rebuild". Make sure after you install SleepEnabler using kexthelper you select "kext permissions" then "run" - after that finishes select "tag cache rebuild" then "run". Make sure all of this - along with editing the com.apple.Boot.plist is done before rebooting - again as MalibuJack posted. To further clarify that it should look like this after adding pmVersion=23:

<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>arch=i386 pmVersion=23</string>

Basically, follow MalibuJack's post on 257 doing a clean install and if you have an S10 it should work flawlessly as mine did on the first try.

Good luck.

Just did a clean install using MalibuJack's instructions along with amm203's clarifying install notes, and my S10 is running perfectly. with 10.6.8. It would be more help if it was all organized in a clearer "how to" fashion (required downloads, step by step linear instructions)

I have successfully installed 10.6.8 and updated SleepEnabler.kext using SLE 1.1.18. However, backlight issue on wake from sleep still remains. I have followed all the great instructions from MalibuJack and others and have even learnt how to recover from various KPs without having to re-install everything. Everything else seems to be working great!

Just to note, when the display goes off to save power, the backlight does come back on but not when returning from sleep mode either via a lid closure or selecting sleep from the menu.

Does anybody have any other suggestions I can try? It's just just frustrating me now that this is the only thing I can't seem to solve!

Thanks in advance.

i am trying to update from 10.6 already with S10 enabler installed, and updating by the combo 10.6.8 that i downloaded standalone and after i install again the enabler and restart it would never enter. I cannot find as well a compatible version os sleepenabler.kext that would go with it.

I just went through MalibuJack's instructions, installing from scratch, to get to 10.6.8 on my S10 (original), using S10 Enabler 1.1.17, and here's where I got stuck and how I resolved it:

- If I use the 10.6.3 installer (and the new SleepEnabler), the backlight does not turn back on waking up from sleep. I was unable to resolve this directly (replacing FrameBuffer kext, etc).

- However, if I use the 10.6.0 installer instead (and the new SleepEnabler), it works correctly. I can sleep it and wake up and it works.

- I would frequently get the 0xdeadbeef error on startup. Misleadingly, I could get past this by booting from an external drive and then deleting the kext cache, but then it would always come back on the second reboot. The fix, which I discovered somewhere in page 150 of this thread, was to turn off Lenovo Quick Start in the BIOS and to make sure the internal HD was first up in the boot order.

These took a while to figure out, but now that I've figured them out it seems to be working great. I didn't try 1.1.18 since I don't need wired ethernet.
