The S netbook is NOT an Apple product and was never intended to run Mac OSX. Fortunately, enthusiasts have found ways to make OSX run on our netbook. However, the process may not be smooth for some. Make sure you have patience and time to get it to run. Most importantly, motivation to read and learn. This forum contains enough information to get OSX running. Most problems you may encounter can be solved just by reading through the forums or searching. So please take the time and read through the forums!

Either that, or use Apple Remote Desktop to control the machine from another Mac. Of course, you need to enable ARD control before doing the .6 update.

Carlos, here is the link to the vendor that I purchased the internal BT radio from [--http://cgi.ebay.com/2-0-Bluetooth-Module-cable-screw-4-Lenovo-Ideapad-S10_W0QQitemZ260341277931QQihZ016QQcategoryZ31534QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem--]. It works fantastic with BlueSoleil too! MS BT stack with XP lacks A2DP, but with BlueSoleil all is up and running perfect.
I am going to install OS X yet once again step-by-step from your guide in the next few days, I'll let you know if it worked or not.

Oh, BTW, I am running Win 7 Bet-1 on this thing, and I got to tell you, this S10 is flyin'...........

Do you know if BootCamp is available for this? I couldn't find it in my System Options.

I don't know anything about that, sorry. Sounds dangerous, since it would make certain assumptions about partitions that would be invalid.

Just a little tip... before doing all the updates (10.5.6 combo update in the software update pane) I installed the keyboard and mouse kexts before restarting while they initially worked, and voila! I didn't have to use any external devices upon rebooting, everything worked right off the bat after installing the 5.6 update to OS X.

Excellent advice, added it to the file and original post.

is it really necessary to edit that plist file you mentioned? I can't seem to edit it, and my system seems ok without editing it.

Can you confirm that your system sleeps and wakes when you close and open the lid? And your USB ports work? That would be interesting, mine did not work properly.

I got the clamshell sleep to work. But upon wake from sleep it messages with the wifi. I read some where that you had to disable wifi first before putting to sleep. Tried that too, but on wake, wifi nolonger works and can't be turned on from osx.

I didn't have any such issues on mine, so it might be worth doing another fresh install and be sure the steps work all along. You might try the manual cache clearing also. I did 3-4 installs myself before I got it working right.

PS. kext helper is the way to install kext right? the only way?

There are other ways, but they suck. I used kexthelper.

I've modified the how-to file and original post based on questions and suggestions posted here.

carlos-
thanks for the awesome guide.. i seem to have os x up and running pretty well, but just a couple questions for you:

1) finally got sleep mode working (took FOREVER!!).. but i'm experiencing an issue that i also had when sleep was NOT working correctly. After sleep and wake up (or previously, failed sleep and wake up) if i want to power off or reboot OSX shuts down, screen turns off but the fans and power are still on. No indication that the hard disk is moving, but the two blue lights at the front of the laptop remain on as well as the fan. I have to manually press the power button to actually power off. Any clues as to what is causing this? After so many kext installs/replacements i'm not positive what's in there and what's not any more haha

2) what does the voodoopower kext file do?

thanks!

**edit.. now i have another question. i installed AppleACPIPlatform.kext (although it seemed like my fans were ok) and voodoo power + the gui kext. Now my keyboard and trackpad are non-responsive again.. do i just do the same thing as after the 10.5.6 update to get them back? i have no idea what happened.. and i'm on the road without a usb keyboard/mouse!!

Can you tell me what you had to do, or suggest changes to the guide that would make it easier?

Sorry, I don't know the solution to the other issues. I did my install in that particular order, and I've found that sometimes the order of installing things does make a difference. The power-off issue is very common with Hackintoshes in general, both laptop and desktop. My S10 isn't doing this, but both of my desktops have this problem. I haven't worked on it because I figure it's not a big deal. You're saying yours also won't reboot? That's strange if so.

yeah, it seems so.. but sometimes it does. I need to test it some more as i was at a conference so didn't have time to mess with it.

as far as sleep mode is concerned, i did everything listed here a bunch of times, but no dice.. i tried to install the kexts, and it seemed ok, but still wouldn't sleep. so i logged in as root and made the manual changes to that plist file, but still didn't work. The thing that finally made it work (which may seem obvious to some, but wasn't said explicitly in the guide) was that i logged in as root to install the kext files.. i didn't have to make the plist file changes after that. It sleeps manually or by clamshell, although the zeros come out when it wakes up, but otherwise ok.

to get the keyboard and mouse working i reinstalled the old acpiplatform.kext and the ps2 kext files.. i'm not sure which did the trick but it got it working again. Still dunno why it got broken in the first place.. stressful times ha

I just started having the same problem during reboot. Mine will always shut off, but now it always just hangs on reboot. The system is shut down, but the reboot signal never goes. Not a big deal.

weird huh? how essential is the voodoo power kext? everything seems fine without it.. i'm just wondering cause some of the OS animations seem choppier with the voodoo kext in, so i've since removed it.is that bad?

The Voodoo kext enables Speedstep, which slows down the CPU when it's not under load. You will likely lose battery life and run a little hotter without that. You might want to enable it and then use the GUI to manage your speeds manually. I think it all depends on what you are doing on the machine, how much battery life you need, how much you want to manually mess with things, etc.

Hello everyone, I have been working all weekend getting my new s10 running with msiwindosx upgraded to 10.5.6. It's all running great with a couple of exceptions.

First thing:
What is everyone's experience with the sleep mode, do the fans still cycle every 30 seconds or so?

Second thing:
Also, I just reinstalled the the EHCISleepEnabler.kext, and now it hangs on a black screen during reboot.

If I remove it, I can reboot fine. Any thoughts?
