Fan Behavioir Bios Petition

Postby BrendaEM » Sun Jan 18, 2009 1:50 am

Could you please update the S10 BIOS so the fan speed table is not constantly throttling?

Thank You,

i second that, just change the fan to operate base on temp(may be even at 50C), and not CPU activity, cuz it gets really annoying when the fan goes on and off, on and off everytime you open an application, and the temp is not even over 30C. After hitting a certain, just let the fan operate constantly at a low speed. I'm sure the laptop won't die.

You might want to contact Lenovo directly for this. This forum is in not run by Lenovo. ;)

I really like my S10, and in every other way I am quite please with it--except for the fan issue.

[I posted the petition here because this seems to be the best S10 community site I have found.]

I really don't understand why people complain so much about the fan.. It could be alot worse, and I did notice an improvement when I upgraded the bios. But overall this is an awesome netbook, but its also a $350 or so low-end computer.. If they can fix it, or decide to fix it, then it'll happen.

This fan is NOWHERE near as bad as many other laptops I work with in a quiet room.

If the rest of the S10 wasn't good, I wouldn't complain about the fan, because I wouldn't have bought it, but as luck would have it these are otherwise great little computers. With that said, I noticed that the fan noise degrades my Skype experience.

I'd hope that the the fan's speed is controlled by PWM, and a new BIOS could give new speeds. I'd rather it ran more often, but not as fast.

Someone else did a hardware mod, and while that is extreme, it means that there is hope, but tweaking it through the BIOS might be better. Perhaps also, the mesh over the fan might be causing more turbulence than need be.

I agree that something should be done about the fan problem. The S10 is a great little machine with the exception of the known cooling issues. I too upgraded to the latest BIOS and have found that tweaking the Energy Management Settings both helped a bit, but surely Lenovo can do a bit better. Please keep the updates coming!

X2 if you think the Lenovo is bad, you've never owned a Toshiba laptop. It's even worse.

I'm sorry--did I write anything about an open discussion in this thread? It's fine to disagree my plea to make a good little computer better through the use of a little more care setting fan speeds and temperature points, but please do it in another thread.

Does it not say petition at the top of this thread?
