Can't get boot prompt

Postby joeswamp » Sat Jul 24, 2010 7:16 am

I recently used the wonderful s10 enabler to install 10.6.4 on my s10. This had previously been a dual boot system but this time I just blew everything away and made one big Mac partition.

So now I have no boot options menu and the system just quickly displays the grey apple while booting. I want to turn on kernel debugging as I've had a couple of kernel panics in the last month, but I can't seem to get the boot menu. My understanding is that you're supposed to hold down F8, but that doesn't seem to work -- instead of a boot prompt I get a picture of my hard drive. Then I hit any key and it loads the kernel.

Sorry for the stupid question, but how to I get the boot options prompt?

Try the arrow down button on the Screen where your Hard Drive is shown (which indeed is the boot menu).
On arrow down you should see different option only one by one. Not all Options at the same time.

Thanks so much for that, it worked!

Keyboard was remapped in a strange way though. Once I hit arrow down to get the boot menu entry, I had to hit the tab key to get the boot prompt. Then when in the boot prompt (after I typed the kernel options), the enter key didn't work -- but the escape key worked as the enter key.

I'm all set now, thanks!!
