seriously fast battery drain...

Postby spinghed » Sun Jul 11, 2010 4:07 am

Hello... I'm new here but not new to OSX86. I found my old S10e in the cupboard yesterday so I thought I'd install osx on it. Used the enabler from the forums and everything works great - faster than Win7 it seems...

Only issue I have is the fan seems to be constantly on at full speed and the batery drains in about 45 mins....

This I imagine is a themal /power management issue - can anyone point me towards the right info to tackle this - cant seem to dig it out using the search.

thanks in advance

I would check on which BIOS version you're running too. That might play a factor even if it is on the OSX side of things

Hello, thanks for the replies...

I have the standard (not sticking out) battery and on the back of the machine is a sticker that says: Type 4068-4SG.

The battery may be a bit tired but the drain is much faster than when I had win7 on it so I don't think that is the main issue... I was thinking it could be the bios which I haven't updated.

Is there any way to update the bios without an install of windows?

thanks

You can also update the BIOS with bartPE on a flash drive.

So I created a boot disc with BartPE and managed to update the bios very easily - the brightness control appears to work fine now and the fan isn't on constantly... this is a "good thing" :D

I shall test with this setup and report on battery life if anyone is interested... :?:

See ya

for some bizarre reason after the bios update I no longer have wifi - the airport wont switch on. I'm going to reinstall the driver and see what's what. I'm thinking I may have to do a complete reinstall now that the new bios is in place. We shall see....

Rick

UPDATE - re-ran the original enabler app over the existing installation and I have wifi back - so that's a useful fix!
