Just added Google Earth, since I teach environmental geology. Images are at 772 x 500 when copied to Photoshop Elements, which is good enough for PowerPoint slides. Installation warned that my screen is < 1024 x 768, but it works fine on the S10.
Plants vs. Zombies on the S10 is such a fun stress-buster.

I've been way more conservative in adding programs than I usually am.

Firefox
Foxmarks - to keep my bookmarks synced between computers
PayPal browser add-in - great for secure online purchases coupled with Secure Cards

Foxit Reader - soooo much faster than Acrobat

Office 2007

PSP X2
Irfanview - free, fast graphics viewer

Norton Internet Security 2009 - I know, I know! But 2009 has a much smaller footprint and has some good features - updates and background scans that run when the computer is idle. No bogging it down like previous versions.

Spore - what can I say? I loaded it mostly to see if I could. It runs! But I've only completed a level or so on the S10.

Ilium's List Pro and eWallet - two of my essential Pocket PC apps that I sync with my S10. eWallet is is password protected "wallet" for all your sensitive information - credit card info, insurance stuff, software serial numbers, etc. The thing I use it the most for is passwords. It allows you to generate secure passwords for each place. Once you input the URL and log in information, you can click the link and it will log you in.

List Pro is one of my most used apps. It keeps, well, lists. But in a very useful way. I run it mostly on my iPAQ, but sync to the S10, but it's useful on its own. Once you generate a list, you can use it over and over again. I often buy many of the same things at the grocery store, so I add them to the list by aisle. You can display only the items you want to get on that particular trip. As you check them off, they disappear. ONce the list is empty, your'e done! I also use it for packing lists for trips, keeping track of magazine subscriptions, Xmas card lists, books I want to read, movies to rent, etc.

I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned the VirtualCDROM control panel power toy from Microsoft. I use it in order to have a cdrom drive. I have some software that requires the CD to be inserted and it does the trick thanks to an ISO image of the disk and this utility.

This is another player and codec package - http://www.cccp-project.net/. I find the CCCP zplayer is easier to use than VLC

 I am so frustrated...you all are talking about all the software you have installed and I cannot even get my MS Office 2000 to install because it says it can't find XP Pro SP3. I have not upgraded the OS, so how can it be looking for this? This is a gift I bought for my sister and I can't make it useful without software. HELP PLEASE! :!:

I personally like using Daemon tools for that task.

I believe the S10 comes with XP Home SP3, and MS Office 2000 is lacking some files which are normally available in Office XP, Office 2003, or Office 2007. Your choice here is to get your hands on an XP Home SP3 disk (ULCPC edition), so that Office can copy over the missing files or you can purchase a newer version of office. If none of the above appeal to you you can also try using OpenOffice, found here:

http://download.openoffice.org/

OpenOffice can do just about everything MS Office can do, including: create, edit, and open MS Office files. Best part about it is it's open source (100% free).

I loaded up with the usuals, like CCleaner, ThreatFire, Foxit Reader (Adobe replacement), etc. Now that I have two notebooks/netbooks I'm finding the Foxmarks Firefox add-on essential for keeping my bookmarks in sync. I'm also using Syncplicity for syncing and backup. I'd been using Mozy on my one-and-only laptop, but now that I have the S10 it's nice to auto-sync my files. Seems to be working as promised.
